Rysmierdam

In 2000, Rysmierdam wall broke after heavy rain.

Total devastation below the dam wall.

Water streaming out through the hole in wall.

Almost completely drained.

The wall has no clay core and the soil is absolutely no good for dam walls. Continued maintenance will be required.

The dam was completely overgrown with just a small amount of water left.

The Shareholders agreed a budget to repair the dam wall and in 2005 new levels were set out. It was decided to lower the existing wall by 2 meters with a natural runoff in the middle of the wall. The excess soil was then used to widen the wall.

The wall was then cladded with rock on both sides.

The hole was plugged and filled with a cement/sand mix and compacted.
